About The Position

Provides research, educational and bibliographical services to the faculty, staff, and students of the Medical Center.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association School and three years' experience in an academic or medical library required.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to overall 21st Century Library operations
  • Familiarity with current trends in academic library information systems, higher education, and in the use of information systems in a teaching, learning and research environment
  • Ability to plan and supervise complex clerical processes and technical operations
  • Familiar with computer systems, particularly those relating to specific Library duties (OCLC, Web Based Discovery systems, RDA Cataloging procedures, Citation management software (ENDnote, Zotero, etc.)
  • Demonstrates ability in MS Office Suite software

Responsibilities

  • Provides research, educational and bibliographical services to the faculty, staff, and students of the Medical Center.
  • Performs bibliographic searches in a variety of databases at the request of faculty, staff and students and provides instruction in their use as well.
  • Supports research and publishing efforts by providing one-on-one assistance and scheduled classes on a variety of topics. Provides guidance to authors with publishing and copyright issues.
  • Evaluates, collects, organizes, and ensures access to information in digital and print formats.
  • Markets the library's resources and services through person Research Guides, newsletters, web page, and departmental visits.
  • Responsible for specific area(s) within the Library, which may include activities such as technology, metadata management, archives, clinical medical librarian, acquisitions and collection management, curriculum involvement, and student assistance.
  • Develops, supervises, and evaluates employees. Participates in annual and long term planning for utilization of temporary and permanent library positions.
  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
