About The Position

Provide professional development and support to special education teachers and support staff regarding the implementation of the district's curriculum, goals, and initiatives. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the Student and Family Services Department.

Requirements

  • Valid Iowa Teaching License or Statement of Professional Recognition (SPR).
  • Minimum of four years of experience in at least one of the following areas: Math, Literacy, Social Emotional Learning,Special Education, Significant Disabilities.
  • Building or district level leadership experience.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development for small and large groups of adults.
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Curriculum and Design, Educational Leadership, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Services to determine department needs.
  • Lead development and creation of special education goal writing, progress monitoring and curriculum guides.
  • Collaborate with district curriculum coordinators regarding standards and implementation of best practices to support effective teaching.
  • Build and deliver high quality professional development to teachers and support staff regarding effective instruction for students with disabilities, integrated services, special education law, and other essential topics.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to special education support staff to ensure implementation and fidelity of specially designed instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate PLC opportunities for special education teachers during and after school hours.
  • Develop and deliver onboarding and ongoing professional learning to new special education teachers and support staff.
  • Analyze district and department data to develop timely professional development to special education support staff and special education teachers.
  • Provide leadership by analyzing data and prescribing strategies for teachers to implement to improve achievement for students with disabilities.
  • Keep current with special education law, curriculum, and teaching strategies in the field of special education.
  • Provide guidance to Student and Family Services staff members as they support the implementation of district goals and initiatives.
  • Support the monitoring and implementation of the school district’s board goals using the district levers.
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
