About The Position

A Professional Driver Trainer (PDT) promotes C&S values while teaching how to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle and elevate the customer experience through the delivery process. A PDT serves as the primary peer mentor of new hire associates who are becoming familiar with their role. Through training, mentoring, and regular discussion with management, a PDT will enable the C&S Family of Companies to become an employer of choice for professional drivers. The PDT will play a pivotal roll in influencing the retention of newly hired associates, the safety of fleet, and the overall customer experience. Description Internal Position only for: + Spartan Nash and C&S Wholesale Grocers - CDL Class A Drivers + Must be a Driver with the company for 2-5 years + Preventable Collision and Injury Free for the last 3 years + $32 Per hour + Great Opportunity! + Demonstrate, explain, and teach best practices that relate to safe driving of a tractor/trailer and delivering to our customers, including but not limited to: how a tractor and trailer operate, how to perform safety checks, proper load / unload procedures, ELD protocol, and what to do in the case of an emergency. The trainer may complete this activity at their domicile or travel to another location within the C&S network. + When there are no training assignments, a PDT will elevate the customer experience while completing store delivery assignments. + Serve as a peer mentor through maintaining regular communication with newly hired associates that lasts beyond the initial training program. Find success with ensuring forming relationships and ensuring questions and/or concerns are answered. + Maintain regular communication with management to provide comprehensive status on new hire progress, share ideas for improvement, voice concerns, and help develop solutions. + Conduct targeted training sessions in a one on one or group setting. A PDT will also represent C&S in external settings (career fair, Trucking Association meetings, etc.).Assist with re-training associated with safety policy violations and / or routine re-fresher training + Complete ride-a-longs to evaluate driver performance and procedures + Miscellaneous duties as assigned by management, including but not limited to: evaluation of new store locations, participation in driver committees, process development, customer requests, etc.

Requirements

  • Internal Position only for: Spartan Nash and C&S Wholesale Grocers - CDL Class A Drivers
  • Must be a Driver with the company for 2-5 years
  • Preventable Collision and Injury Free for the last 3 years
  • Knowledge of DOT Regulations, Class A CDL, CSA BASICs and other DOT compliance issues of a commercial vehicle operation
  • Effective Communicator, Organized
  • Ability to comprehend and develop working knowledge of company operations, dispatch procedures, maintenance programs, policies, products / commodities and customers Customer service obsessed
  • Familiarity with the vehicle and asset types company drivers will operate
  • 2-5 : Driving experience with a Class A CDL.
  • High School Diploma - General Studies

Nice To Haves

  • Formal defensive driver training certification
