The Professional Development Registered Nurse Specialist - Ambulatory Nursing is responsible for supporting nursing clinical practice, budgetary personnel activities, regulatory activities associated with the clinical department, and professional development coordination assistance. Assures compliance with the directives, policies and applicable laws and regulations. Responsible for developing and initiating improvements in the organization and delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care. This role is full-time, 40 hours weekly. Hours are 8am-4:30pm; hours may vary depending on needs of the positions and areas supported. Travel to clinics and regional classroom locations in both the Central and NE regions may be required.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years RN work experience is required.
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program- (Required)
  • Minimum of 2 years-Nursing (Required)
  • Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania
  • Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) within 3 years of hire - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)

Responsibilities

  • Assist professional development supervisor with providing licensure level expertise.
  • Assists with orientation, onboarding, ongoing competency assessment/evaluation and integration of new employees and students.
  • Maintains current knowledge base clinically and administratively through active participation in professional, and educational nursing activities to enhance skills as manager, leader, and clinical resource.
  • Works in collaboration with outpatient site managers, supervisors, team leads and coordinators to support nursing staff needs
  • Assist professional development supervisor with development and ongoing maintenance of New Manager Training Program, Ambulatory Nurse Leader program, and developing, implementing, and maintaining ongoing professional development programs and opportunities.
  • Completes ambulatory clinical skill mix assessments systemwide, providing clinical operations teams assistance with nursing skill mix optimization.
  • Reviews ambulatory nursing position justifications to ensure appropriate scope assignment.
  • Supports organizational and site-specific efforts for service excellence, financial accountability, quality improvement, and patient safety.
  • Maintains documentation for fiscal impact tracing.
  • Evaluates quality of care administered in assigned areas, makes rounds, and assures timely communication of significant operational issues.
  • Focuses on empirical quality outcomes related to clinical practice.
  • Collaborates with Ambulatory Nursing Leadership team to support the department goals and Geisinger Nursing system strategic plan.
  • Serves as a strong role model in professional practice as evidenced by strong relationships with staff and members of other departments, effective communications, appropriate resource utilization and sound planning skills.
  • Communicates pertinent information as necessary within the ambulatory nursing structure
  • Facilitates team-based problem solving within and between departments.
  • Actively support Magnet philosophies such as a healthy work environment, professional growth and patient and family involvement in care decisions.
  • Assists with development, maintenance, and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Supports Ambulatory Nursing Leadership team with administrative responsibilities for departments as delegated.
  • Serves as a clinical resource assisting nursing personnel in assessing patient and family needs, obtaining equipment and patient care items as necessary, and to answer questions and solve problems within the department and the institution.
  • Promotes and supports positive guest relations.
