About The Position

Position Purpose: At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Nurse Senior – Educator, informally known as the Nursing Professional Development Specialist, will advance nursing excellence through evidence-based education and professional development with a primary focus on Women, Infant, and Children services, including LDRP and NICU environments. This role empowers nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by fostering lifelong learning and supporting clinical competency across these specialty areas. What You Will Do: Design and implement educational programs for Women’s Health, LDRP, and NICU teams, ensuring compliance with AWHONN standards. Facilitate high-fidelity simulations, particularly for NICU and obstetric emergencies, to strengthen clinical readiness. Collaborate with leadership and interdisciplinary partners to support initiatives that expand NICU capabilities and enhance relationships with internal and external community resources. Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, promoting evidence-based practice and quality improvement in maternal-child health.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Connecticut RN license.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) strongly preferred; BSN candidates will be considered if actively pursuing an MSN or higher degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum or NICU inpatient specialty/service lines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in NICU environments and neonatal resuscitation.
  • Familiarity with AWHONN standards and maternal-child health best practices.
  • Ability to design and conduct simulation-based training.
  • Current BLS certification and advanced specialty certifications (ACLS, etc.). Certification support will be offered post-hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver educational programs for nursing staff.
