About the Early Education Division The Early Education Division is federally funded to provide center‑based Head Start and Early Head Start services, offering high‑quality early care and education along with comprehensive community resources and referrals. These programs are designed to ensure that economically disadvantaged children enter school ready to learn and that families have the support needed to achieve long‑term self-sufficiency. The division operates classrooms through a mixed‑delivery model that includes full‑year, part‑year, community‑based, and school‑based sites. Services are delivered directly by Maricopa County and through contracted Child Care Partnerships. Requirements

  • Three years of experience teaching in a licensed childcare or public early learning setting
  • One year of experience in a supervisory or leadership role involving early childhood professional development or coaching
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with 18 credits in Early Childhood Education
  • Must possess or can obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Must secure a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Must complete a medical exam that includes screening for tuberculosis (TB)
  • Must obtain a CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s Certification within six weeks of hire
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish may be required for some site locations

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Four years of experience teaching in a licensed childcare or public early learning setting, which includes two years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role involving early childhood professional development or coaching
  • Current or former Early Head Start or Head Start parent

Responsibilities

  • Cultivates positive, trusting working relationships with staff while providing strong leadership, coaching, modeling, and support to teachers and supervisors.
  • Ensures full compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, organizational policies, procedures, and established program goals
  • Assists and assumes responsibility for the care and well-being of children in the program
  • Conducts classroom observations to collect data on teaching and learning practices, curriculum implementation and fidelity, and quality early learning settings using evidence-based tools
  • Provides guidance and models on preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Guides staff to respect, value, and facilitate family engagement in collaboration with supervisors and family support staff
  • Provides guidance and models in conducting transition activities with parents, community partners, and children
  • Assists staff in utilizing data to develop data-driven classroom lesson plans and education plans individualized to children’s strengths
  • Performs additional duties as needed based on program context—including Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms across school‑based, community‑based, faith‑based, and Childcare Partnership settings—such as facilitating monthly site team meetings and collaborating with internal and external partners
