About The Position

This Professional Civil Engineer I position works in the District One offices located in Topeka and Olathe, KS. This position provides engineering, administrative direction and guidance in the maintenance of highways, bridges and related facilities. Interprets specifications and resolves conflicts between contractors and project personnel. Meets/confers with public officials, utility owners, public and other agencies to coordinate their interests in KDOT policies, standards and construction and/or maintenance projects.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in the design or construction oversight of federal or state funded highway improvement projects.
  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a supervisor or lead worker in an engineering office.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and advises in the decision making on design changes where discrepancies occur and requests price adjustment on contract when justified. Performs final inspection and acceptance of projects as requested.
  • Inspects all types of construction to check conformance with plans and specifications. Reviews work in the field and advises any changes regarding policy or procedure.
  • Attends pre-construction conferences.
  • Training of construction employees as needed. Responsible for proper records and that documentation of project work is complete.
  • Provides professional engineering and administrative direction and guidance.
  • Field check and review plans for contractual repairs, signing and delineation, and special projects for compliance with specifications and standards, and to insure compatibility with actual on-site conditions.
