About The Position

This internship will play a crucial role in supporting the curriculum and content development for the Intro to High-Performance Computing (HPC) Bootcamp, hosted by the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) in August 2026. The intern will work with an ALCF staff member to develop, test, and lead a one-week bootcamp research project. The project will focus on leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for the analysis of genomic data, specifically the identification and classification of DNA sequences involved in regulating gene expression. The goal of the bootcamp research project is for participants to apply the HPC and AI knowledge gained during the program to a DOE science problem. Primary intern responsibilities will include developing research project content and providing feedback from a student perspective. During the appointment, this intern will strengthen their technical acumen, develop deeper communication skills, and contribute meaningfully to the overall success of the bootcamp and its participants. This role is ideal for students with a strong interest in computational biology, bioinformatics, or AI applications in science. Education and Experience Requirements The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States. Applicants must be: o Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution. o Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or o Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution. Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins. Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If accepting an offer, candidates may be required to complete pre-employment drug testing based on appointment length. All students remain subject to applicable drug testing policies. Must complete a satisfactory background check.
