About The Position

The Production Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day operations in a high-volume CNC and bevel machining department focused on the production of fittings. This role leads with a Safety-First mindset, ensuring safety is embedded into every decision, behavior, and process. The Supervisor utilizes Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles to achieve production goals while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement. This position actively drives safety engagement, develops team capability, holds teams accountable, and effectively manages multiple priorities across machining, finishing, and painting operations. The Supervisor serves as the primary liaison with Maintenance, Tool Room, and Scheduling to maximize throughput while never compromising safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining, bevel machines, and set-up techniques.
  • Demonstrated Safety-First leadership mindset with experience driving safety engagement and accountability.
  • Proven ability to lead teams using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications.
  • Comfortable using production management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-mix, high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma tools (5S, standard work, waste elimination, root cause analysis).
  • Experience leading safety initiatives or participation in safety committees is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Daily Production Oversight Lead CNC and bevel machining operations with safety as the top priority, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to optimize workflow, eliminate waste, and improve machine utilization without sacrificing safety or quality.
  • Monitor schedules and dynamically adjust workflow based on production requirements, order priorities, staffing, equipment availability, and risk considerations.
  • Ensure all production orders meet specifications, quality standards, and delivery commitments.
  • Oversee Finishing and Painting operations to ensure safe and efficient downstream flow.
  • Effectively multi-task across multiple work cells, departments, and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate visible, hands-on safety leadership through daily presence on the floor and active participation in safety conversations.
  • Drive safety engagement by encouraging hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and employee involvement in safety improvements.
  • Ensure safety is addressed in daily start-up meetings, shift handoffs, and operational discussions.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Reinforce safe behaviors and intervene immediately when unsafe conditions or actions are observed.
  • Provide direct leadership to machine operators and set-up technicians, offering technical guidance for set-ups, changeovers, and troubleshooting.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold individuals and teams accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and standard work adherence.
  • Foster a culture where employees are empowered to stop work for safety concerns without fear of retaliation.
  • Lead training, cross-training, and skills development initiatives, including safety and standard work training.
  • Coach team members through regular feedback, performance discussions, and problem-solving.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Tool Room teams to ensure equipment is maintained in a safe operating condition and to prioritize preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Scheduling to align production plans and headcount while considering safety risks, fatigue management, and workload balance.
  • Serve as a key communicator across departments to align on priorities, constraints, and safe execution plans.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements, leading by example at all times.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, job safety observations, and standard work reviews to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and address non-conformances promptly using structured root cause analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, company, and customer requirements.
  • Track and report KPIs related to safety, quality, productivity, and delivery, including incident trends and safety engagement metrics.
  • Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to address gaps and sustain results.
  • Facilitate daily start-up meetings with a safety-first focus, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
  • Utilize data-driven decision making to improve operational performance while strengthening safety culture.
