About The Position

RUSTIC BAKERY has been making and serving organic handmade baked goods since 2005. We operate four popular cafes in Marin and have a wholesale production division making flatbread crackers, cookies and crisps in Petaluma with products sold nationally by fine retailers throughout the US. We strive for locally sourced ingredients of the highest quality when making our products and the same goes for our people. Come join our PRODUCTION TEAM in Petaluma, where we bake simple into extraordinary! This position will oversee the production of food products within a manufacturing facility during the 3rd Shift. They will coordinate the manufacturing activities of the production teams and monitor procedures and standards to achieve consistent high-quality products produced in an efficient manner in compliance with FDA regulations and standards. Provides leadership for, and develops the abilities of, production & packaging Leads. This role is responsible for ensuring the best quality products, and excellent customer service by supporting quality audits (American Institute of Baking), good manufacturing practices, (GMP’s), and compliance with federal/state/local regulations (OSHA, SQF, etc.).

Requirements

  • Communicates effectively and accurately, both verbally and in writing. Fully bilingual a must (Spanish & English).
  • Process oriented; familiarity with the bakery operations; production/packaging, quality, maintenance, and food safety.
  • Takes direction and follows instruction with attention to detail; Ability to identify and address potential production issues. Strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading the improvement of operations while delivering day to day performance. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Solid decision-making skills

  • Must be able to work between the hours of 9pm and 7am Monday through Friday with weekends and holidays required on occasion.
  • Food Science or Engineering degree preferred; a combination of education, training and experience may be substituted.
  • 3-5 years of related experience working in similar industry.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and job-related software applications. Proficient in ERP Systems (NetSuite).
  • Experience with FDA Rules & Regulations.
  • Fully bilingual a must (Spanish & English).
  • Extensive knowledge of bakery operations/processing/formulations.
  • Strong technical skills and working knowledge of bakery equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Food Science or Engineering degree preferred
  • Previous management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements, and manages all shift production procedures to ensure plant goals are met.
  • Supports General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defense initiatives and Good Manufacturing Practices with an understanding that these are absolutes. Ensures that General Safety and Food Safety are absolute priorities by setting an example to others.
  • Maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all aspects of production, including production and packaging. Studies and standardizes procedures to achieve continuous improvement leading to savings and worker efficiency.
  • Schedules production Crew and adjusts as necessary to ensure that orders are fulfilled on time and in full. Takes into consideration key inputs such as equipment capacity/capability, and crewing. Develops and provides crew with a weekly work schedule in advance.
  • Ensures updated “batch-sheets” are always available and in use.
  • Supports and champions safety policies, procedures, and requirements for equipment operation.
  • Collaborates with other managers in the facility, including quality/food safety, sanitation, and warehouse.
  • Drives product and process improvement activities by supporting research and development manufacturing trials at the site.
  • Analyzes results of finished goods, determines variances from standard, and takes corrective action as needed. Participates in sensory evaluation of raw material and finished products.
  • Adheres and supports plant sanitation programs and ensures compliance with company standards as stated in the QA Manual.
  • Actively participates in the overall employee experience for production including hiring, performance management, employee coaching, conflict resolution, compensation, and career pathing. Ensures all employees have received the proper training.
  • Manages employee documentation including time cards, disciplinary action, performance evaluations, time off, and terminations.
  • Builds a culture of mutual respect, teamwork, and professionalism, demonstrating active support for the Company's culture.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of improvement programs including a plant-wide regular review of key performance indicators with a focus on continuous improvement throughout production.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the activities listed above.
