The 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and responding to maintenance and production activities, producing sufficient product at budgeted rates to meet sales demands; ensures the quality of products produced; sustains good employee communication and morale to ensure a motivated and productive labor force, Promotes and facilitates the progress of High Performance Work Systems within the department, and performs other duties as assigned. College degree required.

  • Maintains necessary control of production flow to ensure that schedules will be maintained.
  • Coordinates with maintenance department personnel to schedule maintenance and repairs of production equipment and facilities.
  • Prepares operating schedules to insure efficient production levels
  • Controls all direct labor and material cost in area.
  • Performs new equipment and facilities evaluation and recommends the disposition of worn or obsolete material/equipment in order to improve upon capacity and cost goals.
  • Helps plan and execute special projects and evaluations
  • Ensures that products or raw materials (packaging supplies) meet established quality standards, fully utilizing recognized control systems and procedures.
  • Maintains contact with the Quality Assurance Department and Sales for clarification of customer requirements. May visit customer sites.
  • Establishes personal contact with the workforce to ensure high employee morale and cooperation.
  • Evaluates subordinates' work performance and gives feedback regarding all strengths and weaknesses
  • Establishes employee goals in line with plant/department objectives and enters into Performance Management system
  • Completes employee annual and mid-year performance evaluations in Performance Management system and delivers one-on one performance reviews with department personnel.
  • Makes every good faith effort to achieve Department EEO objectives and ensure that personnel practices are fair and consistent with Governmental regulations.
  • Update all employee job descriptions and position checklists as needed to ensure duties/responsibilities are current and accurate and review with employees so they have a clear understanding of their role.
  • Maintains company safety standards and reports all unsafe conditions to EHS/Engineering for prompt corrective action.
  • Reports all accidents promptly and continually indoctrinates employees with safety principles and practices.
  • Acts as resource and champion for department continuous improvement activities (Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem solving, etc.).
  • Manages individual employee involvement in continuous improvement activities to ensure equal opportunities are available for all department members to participate and contribute.
  • Promotes the development and advancement of the High Performance Work System in the department.
  • 3 to 5 years of production-related experience
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, to motivate others and to promote a positive work atmosphere.
  • Self-starter who can work effectively with a minimum of supervision
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees within the company
  • Incumbent must have demonstrated a willingness to challenge conventional ideas, be flexible, innovative and be able to function effectively in a team format
  • A working knowledge of computer systems - Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to read, write, listen, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation accurately
