About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented individual with experience working in manufacturing production and QA to fill a critical role of Production & QA Support Specialist at one of our Kent, OH manufacturing locations.  This position supports production by completing the quality assurance of production, processes, materials, products, and data analysis.  Collects, records, analyzes, and maintains data related to quality systems and engineering info in current business system(s). This role will also perform the role of Production Worker during times the QA functions are not needed.  This position is estimated to spend 40% of the time handling QA functions and 60% of the time performing production work.

Requirements

  • An individual who has a high school diploma or GED.  Two to four years of experience in a quality assurance role is preferred.
  • An individual who can follow detailed instructions and standard practices, but decisions require some judgment to choose prescribed alternatives. Requires initiative and the ability to be flexible.
  • An individual who has basic mathematical, analytical and computer skills (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.); JD Edwards and CAD experience is beneficial.
  • An individual who can effectively communicate with all levels of management. 
  • An individual with outstanding communication skills (both verbal and written) and highly organized.
  • An individual with a strong work ethic, and a 'can do' attitude and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follows processes and procedures and conducts the daily functions of inspection, sampling, and final testing of vendor items and finished products, ensuring the established specification and quality standards are met.
  • Interacts regularly with operations functions to monitor standards for raw materials, work in process, and finished products.
  • Collects, records, analyzes, and maintains data.
  • Ensures provision of and collects samples for items including but not limited to: Impression foam items, Grower items, and blend items.
  • Completes dimensional and saturation testing as needed.
  • Holds and releases suspected nonconformance of raw material, work in process, and finished products.
  • Alerts found quality issues to Quality Manager and Production personnel.
  • Monitors nonconformities and provides support for timely completion.
  • Monitors and conveys changes to customer specific requirements
  • Investigates, documents, and prepares data for necessary CoAs and/or CoCs.
  • Assists in the completion and distribution of CoAs and/or CoCs.
  • Assists in inspections of work cells to ensure processes and procedures are being followed.
  • Assists in implementing measures to improve quality of product.
  • Assists in testing and analysis of foam and blend items.
  • Assists in creation and distribution of foam releases.
  • Assists with investigating, documenting, and preparing data for CARs and/or SCARs for customer feedback and support.
  • Assists in maintaining database on product complaints received, assisting in monitoring complaints to identify trends.
  • Visits internal/external customers and suppliers when necessary to confer on specific quality problems.
  • Assists in the product commercialization process by assisting with new product testing, specifications, and inspection of new products upon arrival.
  • Assists R&D with experiments as needed.
  • Assists in year-end inventories activities, as required.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, in accordance with established safety and cleaning procedures.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other teams to help meet Company goals and objectives.
  • Performs First and Last Pcs inspections and follows procedures.
  • Maintains Lot Trace of raw materials through process and system.
  • Maintains any Nonconformance requirements through process and system.
  • Helps to maintain CAR (Corrective Action Activity) as necessary.
  • Helps to perform internal production audits as necessary.
  • Performs Stow Street, Calibrations and Record keeping.
  • Collects, records, analyzes, and maintains data related to all items and provides to management when necessary for sound business decisions.
  • Conducts floor inspections.
  • Reports and maintains Quality Alerts.
  • Creates and distributes foam releases.
  • Prepares data and creates CoAs.
  • Investigates, documents, and tracks CARs.
  • Controls and monitors nonconformities while providing support for timely completion.
  • Follows and documents Management of Change program.
  • Compression testing and release of BIO Foams
  • Saturation testing of Grower foams.
  • First piece inspection for machine setups for Grower products.
  • Holds, monitors, and releases Grower foams that require aging.
  • Documenting, reporting, and issuing scrap authorizations for poor foam quality to Marvin Foaming.
  • Conducts White Glove truck inspections
  • Operates all assigned machinery as directed, while following safe operating procedures.
  • Assembles, fabricates and packages all products under the direction of the Lead or Production Manager.
  • Sorts, inspects, labels and marks products as required to ensure high quality standards. Notifies Lead or Production Manager if foam does not meet required standards.
  • Checks assigned machinery daily for malfunctions and informs Lead or Production Manager of any problems.
  • Maintains high speed, as needed, in order to meet daily production schedules.
  • Removes all scrap material from assigned work area(s).
  • Completes all necessary records and reports as assigned.
  • Maintains clean and safe working area according to the established safety procedures.
  • Can be assigned to other departments or locations, as production requires.
  • Participates in and supports Smithers-Oasis continuous improvement activities.
  • Supports and leads by example the Core Values of the organization.
  • Performs any other duties as required.

  • This is a full-time position with an onsite work schedule of Monday through Thursday from 6:30am to 4:30pm.  Overtime hours will be required based on business needs.  
  • The starting pay for this position is $20.50/hour.  Higher pay depends on relevant work experience.
