About The Position

The Production Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of production planning and execution for assigned Los Angeles Philharmonic Association concerts and events across Association venues and other off-site spaces. Working under the direction of the Associate Director, Production, this role ensures the successful delivery of performances and rehearsals while maintaining strong working relationships with Orchestra members, crew, visiting artists, and internal departments. The Production Manager operates as an integral member of the Production Management team, independently overseeing assigned programs while contributing to the broader coordination and operational success of the department.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant production experience, including work in orchestral, theatrical, operatic, live music, or related disciplines.
  • Experience working with orchestras preferred.
  • Ability to read music preferred.
  • Proven leadership and project management ability in the performing arts.
  • General knowledge of industry practices and standards in concert production, stage operations, technical disciplines, and performance logistics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage high-volume correspondence, prioritize information, and collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic working knowledge of CAD-based drafting software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD), and/or willingness to learn.
  • Touring experience preferred.
  • Secondary language fluency a plus.
  • Ability to deal tactfully at all levels.
  • Focus on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Maintain availability for evening and weekend work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of production planning and execution for assigned LA Phil–produced concerts and events across Association venues and other off-site locations.
  • Communicate with conductors, guest artists, touring personnel, and artist management to gather and disseminate production information.
  • Develop production schedules, stage plots, run-of-show paperwork, and other technical documentation.
  • Coordinate backline rentals, production equipment, and instrument needs.
  • Engage and coordinate part-time employees, stage crew, and independent contractors as required.
  • Supervise stagehands and contractors and oversee setup, rehearsals, strike, and performances.
  • Show-calling responsibility for assigned performances.
  • Manage and reconcile production budgets, including oversight of labor and production-related settlement components in coordination with Finance.
  • Coordinate and communicate information related to seat holds and kills for assigned programs.
  • Record, maintain, and archive production documentation and related materials.
  • Participate in production planning and logistical coordination for domestic and international tours; accompany the Orchestra on tour as assigned.
  • Maintain detailed working knowledge of IATSE crew agreements and apply union rules appropriately in scheduling and supervision of assigned concerts.
  • Share responsibility for maintaining instrument inventory records in the Salesforce database and related insurance documentation.
  • Collaborate with visiting performing groups to ensure their production needs are planned for and accomplished within the parameters of Association venues.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Music Director, Orchestra members, stage crew, senior management, artists’ managers, guest conductors and artists, outside vendors, and internal departments.
  • Share in Production Management concert duty, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
