The primary responsibility of the The Ted Shawn Production Manager (TST PM) is supervising the technical operations of all Ted Shawn Theatre (TST) programming during the 2026 Festival. Built in 1942 as the first theater in America designed specifically for dance, the TST is a proscenium venue that seats 620 patrons. The TST reopened in 2022 after two years of extensive renovations to its stagehouse. The TST is programmed for 11 weeks of the season with an opening gala performance followed by productions by 1 company a week. The typical TST performance schedule is 6 shows from Wednesday through Sunday. During the pre-season the TST PM assists the Director of Technical Production (DoTP) in communicating with visiting companies to clarify and confirm all of their production requirements. During this time the TST PM also works with the DoTP and Departmental Supervisors to organize and plan for the Festival including by creating production schedules, labor plans, and other production specific documents. Once on campus they act as the primary production point of contact for all TST Artists and Staff and work closely with the TST Associate Producer to prepare for all programming. The TST PM supervises the TST Assistant Production Manager and the TST Production Team which consists of a Stage Carpenter, Head Electrician, Electrician, Wardrobe Technician and Head Audio Engineer. They are responsible for facilitating communication and collaboration between the TST Production Team and the Departmental Supervisors and ensuring all stakeholders are always up to date on all TST production schedules and details. The TST PM also coordinates with the Facilities, Safety and Accessibility Department to ensure the building and its equipment are being operated safely in accordance with all protocols and capacity limits.
