Position Summary: Based in Grand Rapids, MI, the Production Manager will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the General Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed.

Requirements

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of heat treating, operations management, metallurgy, inspection, and customer needs through technical and advanced training, seminars, college, B.S.M.E. (metallurgy), and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum five years of practical experience in heat treatment and the ability to manage multi-level employees and functions with a minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including reports as required, attend staff meetings, and interface with other departments.
  • Requires basic knowledge of metals, furnaces, and the capabilities of all plant equipment.
  • Must be knowledgeable of tooling needs and costs.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and customer specifications.
  • Must be knowledgeable in customer needs, material handling procedures, and quality control.
  • Must possess knowledge and have experience in industrial safety programs, OSHA regulations, company rules, and compliance with State and Federal labor laws relating to employment, discipline, etc.
  • Must possess the ability to ensure compliance with company rules as established by Corporate and the General Manager.
  • Must be totally trustworthy, set a good example, and maintain a positive company image.
  • Must have good computer skills.
  • Must be effective in promoting and maintaining positive employee relations, and have a basic understanding of company rules, procedures, benefits, and pay policies as related to production employees.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting/standing position for extended periods of time in an office/industrial environment.
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced related training is preferred.
  • Tooling design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs activities of production and maintains appropriate production staffing as needed to meet company goals.
  • Responsible for shop production schedules and conducting production meetings, including supervisors’ meetings.
  • Ensures customers’ needs are appropriately met by shipping to schedule with minimum turnaround time and a high degree of quality, working closely with the Quality Manager.
  • Responsible for communicating policy changes from top management to others in supervision and ensuring supervisors’ understanding of management philosophies, safety, product handling, equipment capabilities, and customer needs.
  • Responsible for enforcing the company handbook and communicating with the Office Manager and/or General Manager on matters relating to discipline.
  • Responsible for maintaining an effective energy conservation program, maintaining controls over labor costs, directing industrial services, and approving expenditures within established company guidelines under the guidance of the General Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safe operation of equipment, safe work habits of the employees, and administering the safety program within the guidelines established by the company and the General Manager.
  • Responsible for purchasing and/or approving materials for shop, facilities, tooling, fixtures, etc., under the guidance of the General Manager.
  • Participates in staff meetings as a member of management.
  • Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS.
  • May have access to compensation information of other employees or applicants in this role, and as such cannot disclose the pay of other employees or applicants to other individuals.
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customers’ inventory and, as such, will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
  • Performs other duties as dictated by position or required by the General Manager.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
