Summary: The Production Equipment Mechanic III is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of process equipment used in pharmaceutical filling operations. This role requires advanced technical expertise to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and in compliance with GMP standards. The mechanic will work with schematics, technical drawings, and manuals to perform preventive and corrective maintenance while proactively identifying opportunities for equipment optimization. Additionally, this role involves documenting all maintenance activities in an electronic work order system and maintaining clear communication with cross-functional teams. The mechanic is expected to demonstrate integrity, self-accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement in all maintenance operations. Responsibilities: Includes organizing and planning preventive maintenance schedules, documenting maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and cGMP standards, and providing leadership and mentorship to other mechanics. This role also involves collaborating with Technical Operations on new and existing customer projects, interfacing with vendors for part fabrication, and proactively identifying and resolving recurring equipment issues to support robust and reliable production operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of two (2) years mechanic experience in a maintenance setting within a pharmaceutical or related industry
  • Hands-on experience in the operation/maintenance of manufacturing equipment in a pharmaceutical or related environment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as, but not limited to, safety instructions, standard operating procedures, policies, and manuals.
  • Ability to write clearly and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and effective application of written and oral instruction.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to quickly adapt and learn new manufacturing software systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in a related field with minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a maintenance mechanic in a pharmaceutical or related environment, preferred
  • Prefer skill in working in aseptic pharmaceutical environments,
  • Prefer knowledge of cGMP and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, FDA, JP, EU, etc.) requirements.
  • Assure that facility engineering drawings and associated documentation (including work orders and ECOs) are effectively and compliantly updated and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and routine maintenance procedures on a wide range of production equipment to ensure operational reliability.
  • Install, qualify (IQ), and commission new manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize equipment performance with minimal supervision.
  • Lead and mentor other mechanics in effective troubleshooting and repair techniques.
  • Organize and execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize equipment performance.
  • Document all maintenance activities accurately and in accordance with SOPs and cGMP requirements.
  • Collaborate with Technical Operations to support new customer projects and improve existing processes.
  • Provide input on spare part needs and work with vendors to fabricate or procure necessary components.
  • Support facility expansion and equipment enhancement projects.
  • Report recurring equipment issues and assist in developing improved maintenance strategies and robust PM practices.
  • Participate in shift change meetings to communicate equipment status and outstanding maintenance needs.
  • Follow and promote all company safety policies, procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
  • Be available for 24-hour on-call duty as needed to support manufacturing operations.
  • Repair tooling and machinery, including fabrication and modification of parts when necessary.
  • Read/interpret SOPs to ensure compliance
  • Maintain up to date trainings
