About The Position

Bond Optics is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Production Control & Purchasing Specialist to support the execution of production schedules and procurement of materials across our precision optics manufacturing operation. This role serves as a central coordination point between Sales/Programs, Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Quality to ensure on-time delivery, material availability, and accurate production flow. The position combines production scheduling discipline with hands-on supply chain management to maintain operational efficiency and responsiveness in a complex, build-to-print manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced production setting, understands how scheduling and material flow directly impact delivery performance, and can proactively identify and resolve risks before they impact production. Production Scheduling & Execution Finite scheduling, work order release, WIP tracking, backlog management, OTD performance, capacity planning and bottleneck mitigation. ERP & Data Integrity ERP work order management, traveler control, queue monitoring, reporting, schedule updates, and shop floor data accuracy. Purchase & Supply Chain Material procurement, supplier coordination, PO management, lead-time control, inventory planning, and vendor performance.

Requirements

  • 3-7+ years of experience in production control, scheduling, purchasing, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a build-to-print or job-shop manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production schedules and coordinate material flow in a dynamic setting.
  • Strong understanding of production scheduling, capacity planning, and material requirements planning (MRP).
  • Experience using ERP systems for work order management, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Ability to interpret bills of materials (BOMs), travelers, and revision-controlled documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to schedule disruptions and supply chain constraints.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools for tracking production and purchasing data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or related field; OR Equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience in production control and purchasing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in precision manufacturing, optics, aerospace, defense, or similar technical industries.
  • Familiarity with ISO or AS9100 quality systems and controlled documentation environments.
  • Experience managing outside processing vendors or specialty suppliers.
  • Knowledge of inventory optimization strategies and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Exposure to cost analysis and supplier negotiation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a finite production schedule across all work centers, including grinding, polishing, coating, metrology, and assembly.
  • Monitor daily production activity to ensure adherence to schedule and correct job prioritization on the floor.
  • Update backlog and realign priorities as needed to maintain on-time delivery (OTD) performance for internal and external customers.
  • Release, reschedule, and manage work orders within the ERP system; monitor queue levels and identify capacity constraints (e.g., metrology, coating, QC).
  • Support the Operations Manager in prioritizing labor and resources across the production floor.
  • Track work-in-process (WIP) by lot/serial number, including yields, scrap, and rework trends.
  • Maintain accurate traveler documentation and ensure revision control compliance across production.
  • Publish WIP status reports, past-due jobs, recovery plans, and expedite actions.
  • Utilize visual management tools such as dispatch lists and job boards to communicate priorities.
  • Serve as the communication hub between Sales, Manufacturing, and Quality to provide updates on schedule changes, risks, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate procurement of raw materials and consumables critical to production, including optical materials, coatings supplies, adhesives, and fixturing.
  • Establish and maintain reorder points, safety stock levels, and lead-time parameters for key materials.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers (domestic and international), including quote comparison, vendor performance tracking (cost, quality, delivery), and ERP vendor data maintenance.
  • Issue purchase orders, track open orders, and follow up on deliveries to ensure alignment with production schedules.
  • Expedite materials and coordinate returns, changes, and non-conformance issues with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Interface with outside processing vendors to align turnaround times with internal production schedules.
  • Support inventory management through cycle counts, reconciliation, and staging materials for production.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, and commodity review.
  • Maintain visibility into material costs to support standard costing and quoting activities.
