About The Position

This position operates on a standard schedule of 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm. We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Chemical Technician contractor to support both production and process development activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. In this role, you will execute high-precision chemical processes that are repetitive in nature. At the same time, you will follow established methods to ensure consistent and reliable production output. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in chemistry, rigorous attention to safety, and practical experience in production operations. This position is based in Emeryville and is offered as a 1099 independent contractor role for a duration of up to 3 to 6 months. There could be potential for extension based on project needs and performance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in Laboratory Chemistry.
  • Proven experience in a production environment, with a strong foundation in chemistry principles and chemical safety.
  • Skilled in wet chemical processing, surface preparation, plating, etching, and material analysis.
  • Proficiency with standard measuring instruments used in chemical processes and metrology tools.
  • Ability to execute chemical processes from written SOPs and work instructions with accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong organizational skills, with precise data recording and reporting abilities.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools (Excel, Google Sheets, JMP preferred).
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and troubleshooting mindset.
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical handling, storage, disposal, and environmental compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in cleanroom and microfabrication environments.
  • Advanced certifications in laboratory safety (Chemical Hygiene, Hazardous Waste Handling).
  • Experience supporting process transfers from R&D to production.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established protocols and work instructions to safely and accurately carry out chemical tests, and material treatments.
  • Prepare chemical solutions and perform surface preparation using solvents, acids, bases and other reagents.
  • Execute electrochemical processing steps such as plating, etching, and other wet chemistry techniques.
  • Collect data; prepare reports and communicate results to team members.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the work area while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Safely handle, store and dispose of hazardous chemicals and waste streams in accordance with company regulatory requirements.
  • Track and maintain inventory of chemicals and consumables at your station.
  • Train new team members in safe chemical handling, equipment operation, and production procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives targeting process control, safety, efficiency and production quality.
