About The Position

PPG Industries, Inc., in Monroeville, PA has a work-at-home Product Stewardship Specialist, Senior position (with the ability to telecommute with appropriate telecommuting systems; the remote worksite must be within commuting distance of Monroeville, PA for weekly trips to the corporate office) responsible for applying knowledge of chemistry-related Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) regulations to ensure the safe handling of PPG’s coatings products by consumers and acting as a technical expert while providing guidance on compliance with product safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry, Polymers and Coatings Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering or EHS field, plus two (2) years of experience in the chemical coatings field.
  • Must know (through academic background, training, or experience): (i) organic chemistry principles, including organic reactions related to coating chemistries and calculations, such as stoichiometric ratios, % solids, density, and VOC content; (ii) raw material coatings hazards evaluation methods; (iii) regulatory compliance requirements both for domestic and international destinations, including restricted/banned chemical substance regulations, chemical inventory regulations (US TSCA and Canada DSL), Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) regulations, and dangerous goods regulations; (iv) chemical coatings product formulations in order to maintain compliance with product safety rules and regulations; and (v) key performance metrics, including product conformance with product regulatory compliance and sustainability targets/scorecards (such as hazard reduction opportunities, restricted substance eliminations, substance of interest evaluations).

Responsibilities

  • evaluating chemistry-based products for compliance against various government regulations and customer requirements
  • responding to and investigating customer product stewardship health and safety requests with a customer-centric approach
  • effectively sharing health and safety information and providing guidance to a wide variety of internal PPG functions, including technical, marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing/operations, to promote safe chemistry-based product designs and compliance with applicable industry regulations
  • collaborating with regional/global colleagues to develop, integrate, and support product safety processes and manage product stewardship requirements
  • identifying and inspiring change within PPG, with a focus on health and safety as well as product process development improvements
