About The Position

Allied Machine & Engineering, headquartered in Dover, Ohio, is a leading global manufacturer of hole making and finishing cutting tool systems. Our tooling solutions deliver the lowest cost per hole in a wide range of applications THIS POSITION REPORTS TO: Research and Development Test Engineer ROLE: Perform in-house testing on AMEC products, new product development, and competitor tooling to compile data and detailed test report required to meet the needs of product research, application, DDT, manufacturing engineering.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in Mechanical Engineering and Journeyman Apprenticeship preferred. related degree or proven work experience considered.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with CNC machines, manual Bridgeport mill and manual small lathe operation preferred.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell testing, tool presetting and data signal acquisition equipment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AMEC products preferred.
  • Good mechanical aptitude, computer skills, print reading skills, troubleshooting skills, verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking skills and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Ability to provide detailed written test reports.

  • Manufacturing process and set-up knowledge is preferred.
  • Understanding of CNC programming and equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Test Monarch, Haas, Hitachi, Makino/Zoller and DAQ/ Spike to perform internal and customer required drill testing to measure AMEC product performance.
  • Operate the Test Monarch, Haas, Hitachi, Makino/Zoller and DAQ/Spike in the presence of AMEC customers to perform scheduled drilling demonstrations…verifying application feasibility.
  • Meet with the appropriate Manufacturing engineer, DDT engineer, Application engineer, R & D engineer, or R & D manager to discuss and understand the scope, goal and expected outcome of the test requested prior to starting.
  • Set-up the Test Monarch, Haas, Hitachi, Makino/Zoller and DAQ/Spike to adequately fixture and support the test workpiece to be drilled.
  • Machine simple tooling needed for workpiece holding or fixturing using machine tools provided for such purpose as well as proper and safe machining techniques.
  • Verify that any fixturing or tooling produced by the AMEC tooling department is dimensionally and functionally correct prior to proceeding with testing.
  • Machine test workpieces that require simple surface preparations or special holding features.
  • Verify that any test workpieces, requiring complex machining in the AMEC tooling department, are dimensionally and functionally correct prior to proceeding with testing.
  • Interact with and manipulate the test program macro to produce the required drilling sequence.
  • Consult with the AMEC CNC programming department regarding the workings and program verification for any complex special CNC program produced for drill testing.
  • Procure all required standard AMEC product (all product lines) to run the required drill test.
  • Create simple programs for all of the CNC machines in the R&D test lab.
  • Work on special project assigned by R&D Test Engineer.
  • Verify proper identification of any specially manufactured product before test drilling.
  • Verify that the inspection of all AMEC product was performed prior to drill testing. Any non-conformities should be brought to the attention of the R & D manager before proceeding.
  • Provide an estimated "test starting time" and the actual starting time to anyone required to be present at the drill test.
  • Follow all process and documentation procedures for drill testing.
  • Inform the appropriate Manufacturing engineer, DDT engineer, Application engineer, R & D engineer or R & D manager for further instructions when expected test results are not obtained during actual drill testing.
  • Interact with and provide information to the various AMEC departments with regards to the support needed in the test machine area: Quality Services - for product/work-piece inspection. Shipping - for product receiving. Tooling - for custom tooling and fixturing. Application Engineering - for testing goals and product knowledge. Maintenance - for machine maintenance. CNC Programming - for custom CNC programs.
  • Organize the tooling, fixturing, test material, product test inventory and measuring instrumentations in the test monarch area.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to maximize a productive test environment.
  • Operate a fork truck
