About The Position

The Information Technology Group of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Product Owner I. This position is responsible for supporting the NAIC product catalog’s success by ensuring each release delivers member value and aligns with NAIC objectives and strategy. This is a full-time hybrid-remote position, in a positive and flexible environment. Residency within 100 miles of the Kansas City, Missouri office is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 – 2 years of product-related experience in similar roles, such as a Project Coordinator, Business Analyst, Scrum Master, etc. or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Basic understanding of Agile and product backlog management.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver complex products.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience with product management tools (e.g., Jira, Targetprocess, Mural, etc.) to manage backlogs, sprints, and product roadmaps.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a specific industry or domain (e.g., insurance, regulatory, etc.).
  • Experience with user research and customer feedback tools.
  • Basic understanding of the technical aspects of the product (e.g., development, architecture) to communicate effectively with the development team and ensure the product vision is achievable.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and a dynamic work environment.
  • Empathy to understand both the end users' and member needs and challenges.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., developers, designers, marketers) and stakeholders.
  • Analytical skills for understanding market trends, customer needs, and business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Business Analysts with gathering requirements and writing user stories.
  • Manages the product backlog(s).
  • Assists in sprint planning and product releases.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Gathers feedback from users and stakeholders to support product improvements.
  • Supports Product Managers with generating and tracking KPIs and product metrics to assess the success of new features and product releases.
  • This position does not have direct reports but may mentor other staff.
