About The Position

AV's summer internship program offers an immersive and dynamic experience, providing students a taste of professional team life within the industry. AV is seeking a Systems Engineering intern to support the Space Technologies business unit, which develops high-reliability opto-mechanical and electrical space systems and components. This intern will be a key member of an integrated team, working across engineering disciplines to support the Systems Engineering team with lifecycle management of high-reliability electronic components in the PLM environment. The role involves collaboration with engineering, supply chain, configuration management, and compliance to manage part metadata, ensure BOM accuracy, and mitigate obsolescence risk. The program aims to provide an enriching full-time job, allowing interns to work hands-on with cutting-edge technology, contribute to meaningful projects, build relationships, and develop strategic problem-solving skills. It is a highly selective program offering personalized attention and opportunities to work closely with AV team members. AV is looking for qualified intern candidates in their second or third year of an accredited 4-year engineering program.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an engineering degree from an accredited university; BS in EE/ME/IE/SE/CS or related (second or third year of a 4-year program)
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Familiarity with electronic components (passives, semiconductors, connectors, power)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLM/CAD/EDA tools (Arena, Altium, SolidWorks)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through school or extracurricular projects
  • Strong technical documentation skills
  • Strong ability to work in teams and collaborate with peers and internal customers

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain part records and attributes in PLM
  • Review datasheets, material declarations, RoHS/REACH, and ITAR/EAR classifications
  • Maintain lifecycle status, preferred/alternate parts, and obsolescence flags
  • Support BOM accuracy and part-to-product traceability
  • Identify at-risk components and research replacements
  • Standardize naming conventions and classification structures
  • Conduct data quality audits and improve workflows
