COMPANY PROFILE Petmate/Doskocil Mfg., Inc was founded in 1960 as an innovative manufacturer and supplier of crates and kennels used by the airline industry to transport pets. Over the years, the Company added individual consumers to its market strategy and expanded its product offerings, both domestically and internationally. Today, doing business as Petmate, the Company manufactures and distributes a wide range of pet products under the Petmate brand and on a Private Label basis, including: Kennels & Carriers Shelters & Dog Houses Bedding Feeding & Watering Litter Maintenance Collars & Leashes Toys & Accessories Treats & Chews SCOPE Our summer program allows students to gain exposure and understanding of various careers in the manufacturing and distribution industry. Product Engineering Interns in this program will gain exposure to the following areas: Assisting with prototype creation, including 3D printing and basic assembly. Supporting preliminary electronics setup for integrated products. Participating in product testing and recording results. Helping document product claims and improvements.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate is a rising junior or senior actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering at an accredited institution.
  • Basic CAD knowledge& Experience (SolidWorks preferred) for designing prototypes.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and Prototyping processes and troubleshooting.
  • Basic electronics understanding (circuits, wiring, soldering).
  • Testing and measurement skills for product validation.
  • SBC Experience (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Tinker Board, Beagle Bone, etc.)
  • Attention to detail for accurate assembly and documentation.
  • Problem-solving to address design or testing issues.
  • Communication skills for reporting results and collaborating with engineers.
  • Adaptability to work on different stages of product development.
  • Hands-on technical aptitude for working with tools and equipment.
  • Analytical thinking for interpreting test results.
  • Team work in a collaborative engineering environment.
