Overview Title: Internship – PFAS Chemicals Research & Sustainability in Battery Manufacturing Objective: To investigate the presence, role, and environmental impact of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in battery cell and PCB manufacturing, with a focus on improving sustainability and recycling practices. Background: PFAS (Polyfluoroalkyl substances) are widely used in industrial applications due to a multitude of beneficial properties. However, their persistence in the environment and potential health impacts have raised concerns, especially in battery manufacturing. This is leading to questions about recycling processes and their abilities to deal with the different PFAS variants. Responsibilities Conduct a literature review on PFAS chemicals used in battery cell and PCB manufacturing. Identify which PFAS are present in battery products and manufacturing processes used at Navitas. Analyze how PFAS break down and their environmental impact during manufacturing and recycling. Review current recycling Saltburn practices and assess how PFAS are managed or reduced in these processes. Develop recommendations for questions to ask recyclers regarding PFAS handling and reduction. Summarize findings and propose actionable steps for the company to improve PFAS management and sustainability.
