About The Position

Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains. Serving three primary markets - passenger vehicle, commercial truck, and off-highway equipment - Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities. Job Purpose The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting the global engineering team. The main responsibilities of this position are to learn Dana's culture and products, conduct research and design activities on new products, resolve quality issues, implement cost savings projects, and develop enhancements to existing products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Automotive knowledge preferred.
  • Universal joint, constant velocity joint, and other driveshaft related experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in technical drawings, GD&T, authoring FEA requests, and interpreting FEA results.
  • Must have proficiency in making written and verbal technical presentations to management and/or customers.
  • Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Self-directed and motivated individual who is willing to accept responsibility.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization, team building, problem solving, planning, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work extra hours as necessary to complete assignments and meet project deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate degree in engineering or business is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using any CAD software and/or Siemens Teamcenter is preferred but not required.
  • Manufacturing and/or assembly experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret customer technical specifications and use them to correctly design driveshaft components and assemblies to meet Dana design practices, customer packaging interfaces, and Dana/customer performance requirements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering, purchasing, and estimating teams to ensure product designs are both cost effective and manufacturable while meeting all requirements.
  • Provide technical support to customers, sales, purchasing, manufacturing plants, assembly plants, and other engineering departments during sourcing, vehicle development, launch, and production.
  • Make key decisions on proposals, priorities, and requirements following Dana's Design Review process.
  • Author and/or review DFMEAs, DVP&Rs, engineering work orders, materials, prototype samples, and test lab service requests, and then evaluate prototype samples and test lab set-ups and results.
  • Author and/or review technical reports, presentations, and driveshaft product drawings.
  • Evaluate the merits of change and deviation requests applying acceptable engineering practices and coordinate the implementation of such changes once approved by the customer.
  • Support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
  • Mentor and train less experienced driveshaft engineers and technicians.
  • Review monthly customer vehicle warranty data and manage necessary actions for improvement.
  • Perform benchmarking and competitive driveshaft analyses. Develop and implement VAVE cost savings projects.
