The Impact You'll Make in this Role The 3M Electrical Markets Division (EMD) commercializes products that enable changes in the way the world generates, moves, and uses electricity. Our products help to make electrical systems more reliable, efficient, and safe. The products range from erosion-resistant tapes applied to the leading edge of wind turbine blades; to transparent and moisture impermeable films for flexible solar modules; to cable splices for the electrical grid; to materials that help make the battery packs of electric vehicles safer; to materials that help make electric vehicle motors more efficient. Ultimately, we empower our customers to deliver and use efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy. We are seeking a creative, diligent, and rigorous product development specialist to help commercialize new products to meet customers' needs. The position will support our Core Laminating Adhesives for Electric Motors product/technology platform. It requires broad technical knowledge as well as the ability to work with people from various functions and geographies. The ideal candidate is a passionate person who strives to bring new products to market, enjoys working with various technologies, takes pride in leading and completing projects with creativity and rigor, and is motivated by building relevant new business platforms. Here, you will make an impact by: Leading critical commercialization efforts for new and modified products serving the electric vehicle market Transitioning product concepts from the laboratory to large-scale manufacturing Working directly with customers to understand needs and potential 3M solutions Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Masters degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a physical science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution Three (3) years of experience in product (or technology) development in a private, public, government, or military environment

Requirements

  • Masters degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a physical science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years of experience in product (or technology) development in a private, public, government, or military environment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
  • All US-based 3M full time employees will need to sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M. This agreement lays out key terms on using 3M Confidential Information and Trade Secrets. It also has provisions discussing conflicts of interest and how inventions are assigned. Employees that are Job Grade 7 or equivalent and above may also have obligations to not compete against 3M or solicit its employees or customers, both during their employment, and for a period after they leave 3M.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree (completed and verified prior to start) in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, or material science in from an accredited institution
  • Experience with electric motors, particularly those used in electric vehicle powertrains. This includes knowledge and experience in the following: motor design, materials, technology trends, performance, testing, manufacturing processes, and performance simulation tools.
  • Experience with structural adhesives, particularly anaerobic acrylates
  • Experience with adhesive manufacturing processes
  • Experience with 3M manufacturing operations
  • Experience with developing material standards and specifications
  • Familiar with the new product commercialization stage-gate processes
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision (self-motivated) and in teams
  • Ability to conform to shifting demands, timelines, and priorities
  • Willingness to travel (within the US mainly)
