We are seeking an experienced Product Counsel to join our legal team. This role will serve as the primary legal partner for Resident Experience Suite (RXP), encompassing core platforms like ResidentPortal and Homebody RXP, and covering all consumer-facing features, communications, and other services (including, rent credit reporting, insurance, deposit alternatives, and other financial services), responsible for advising on regulatory, enforcement, and litigation risk across the product lifecycle—from design and development through commercialization and ongoing operation. This position is ideal for a proactive attorney with approximately 5–7 years of regulatory compliance experience. Meaningful legal compliance experience is essential, including understanding a company’s products, monitoring changes in the law, and working with product teams as necessary to update features and functionality of products. The ideal candidate will have a broad corporate foundation and the ability to operate as a versatile legal advisor in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in applicable jurisdiction(s)
  • 5–7 years of regulatory compliance experience, including in-house experience
  • Proven ability to partner with business leaders and external counsel to provide practical, risk-based advice
  • Experience advising on consumer-facing product features, including user flows, communications, and billing or payments functionality
  • Demonstrated ability to own complex subject areas with limited oversight and exercise strong judgment, including determining when to escalate vs. independently resolve issues
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous and evolving regulatory environments
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a technology or high-growth environment, particularly SaaS
  • Experience with multifamily housing, property management, or other tenant-facing services
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to consumer-facing digital products, including communications (e.g., SMS/email), privacy, etc.
  • Experience advising on scalable product or platform environments with high user volume

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret evolving legal and regulatory requirements across applicable jurisdictions and translate them into actionable product and contractual changes
  • Build and maintain clear, centralized documentation of legal requirements for product features and workflows
  • Develop scalable processes and guidance (e.g., playbooks, checklists) to enable Product and Engineering teams to operate within defined legal guardrails
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to embed legal review into the product development lifecycle (PDLC)
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Security, and Go-to-Market teams to drive aligned execution on legal and regulatory requirements
  • Provide practical, risk-based advice to senior management, clearly articulating legal risk, tradeoffs, and recommended paths forward
  • Identify and escalate material legal and regulatory risks within scope, ensuring appropriate visibility and resolution
  • Collaborate with the Contracts team on product-related terms, including drafting standard terms, advising on non-standard deal structures, and supporting negotiation of strategic or high-risk agreements
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and service providers
  • Communicate effectively with business leaders and operational stakeholders, translating complex legal issues into actionable business advice
