Summary The Product Cost Engineer will have responsibility to interface with a defined business area, understand the associated product offerings, and work within a parametric cost modeling framework to deliver traceable and reliable proposals for new business opportunities. Core duties will be performed with direct oversight from Product Leadership. The Engineer will provide cost engineering and analytics to key decision makers throughout the opportunity and product life cycle including analytical design, risk mitigation, proposal support, and various alternative options. The Engineer will begin developing manufacturing knowledge related to a core product line that may include, but not limited to, powder metallurgy processing, wrought material manufacturing technologies, casting and forging technologies, and subtractive manufacturing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Technology required (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Aerospace preferred)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
  • 1-5 years of experience as an Engineer
  • Experience using SolidWorks required
  • Understand manufacturing processes, materials, and related costs
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and computer aided design models with geometric tolerancing
  • Ability to interface with customers and suppliers and present information
  • Basic understanding of Export Control, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and compliance regulations
  • Travel up to 25% domestically
  • The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
  • Please understand that any job offer that requires approval of an export license will be conditional on Materion’s determination that it will be able to obtain an export license in a time frame consistent with Materion’s business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support New Business Development Opportunities Review customer quote request and determine feasibility of manufacturing
  • Perform detailed cost breakdowns for individual components, including material, labor, tooling, and manufacturing hours
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, accounting, process engineering, program engineering, and external suppliers to ensure cost considerations are integrated into the cost model
  • Generate associated engineering drawings, quote solicitation forms, and estimate worksheets for final quote generation
  • Product Portfolio Management Analyze and maintain portfolio self-service pricing tools to ensure targeted financial outcomes are achieved, including but not limited to, top line revenue, standard cost performance, bottom line profitability, and return on invested capital
  • Assist in maintaining cost databases and documenting cost information
  • Collaborate with operations, technology, supply chain, and commercial functions to develop and execute actions to ensure product line achieves financial targets
  • Supply Chain Management Maintain Vendor Compliance Management system, in collaboration with the Compliance Department, to ensure suppliers are fully vetted for defense related programs (ITAR, DDTC, Export Control, Controlled Unclassified Information, etc.)
  • Evaluate supplier proposals to determine risk level, review risk with program engineering, and select appropriate supplier for proposal inclusion
  • Technical Manufacturing Knowledge Maintain knowledge of industry best practices
  • Develop manufacturing knowledge of various product portfolio offerings, both powder-driven product and wrought material processing
  • Communication Prepare presentations for internal and external usage
  • Present cost models to internal leadership, sales, and team members
  • Perform estimate reviews with commercial sales team, market director, and leadership
  • Participate in new order kick-off meetings and review manufacturing methodology
