Position Overview: As a Product Application Engineer, you will be responsible for providing global technical support to Mercury Marine’s delivery partners and customers. You will participate in new product development programs, develop engineering tools that enable quality propulsion system installations and coordinate with marine industry manufactures to develop system engineering solutions to challenges involving propulsion and vessel electrical system integration. In this role you will also coordinate resolution of current product issues and lead the onsite launch of new and current model Mercury products at the boat builder OEM. This position will be based in Central Florida and will provide critical support to the Brunswick Boat Group brands. At Brunswick, we have passion for our work and a distinct ability to deliver. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of marine industry and basic vessel design.
  • Knowledge of marine engines, engine systems and electronic controls.
  • Able and willing to perform hands on vessel testing, trouble shooting and repairs.
  • Exposed to or working knowledge of 6 Sigma problem solving tools.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective when dealing with difficult or unexpected situations.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in a manufacturing production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in troubleshooting & repair of automotive or marine engines and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of vessel performance optimization.
  • ABYC and/or marine technical training.
  • VAVE process knowledge and experience.
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher

Responsibilities

  • New Product Development Programs and Launch: Gather fact based, measurable VOC data & communicate to Product Integration Engineering organization.
  • Communicate Mercury new product changes to boat OEMs via ACTION Presentations.
  • Complete BOM's, Structural Reviews, Installation & Sea Trial Reviews, and Performance Optimization.
  • Current Product: Support Boston Whaler Edgewater, the Brunswick Integrated Manufacturing Center (BIMC), Navan, Sea Ray & Trophy.
  • Conduct hands on troubleshooting and repair of Marine engines and associated rigging components.
  • Champion resolution of current product concerns.
  • Utilize 6-Sigma (DMAIC) process to create & document product concerns.
  • Manage interim containment actions at the OEM.
  • Implement permanent corrective actions and prevention.
  • Document quality issues in Mercury's CPR System.
  • Follow-up communication with OEM specific to issue resolution status.
  • Ensure OEM propulsion system installations meet Mercury Marine's installation requirements.
  • Perform and document installation audits on current production boat models.
  • Champion resolution of installation issues documented in audits.
  • Support the integration of current products into new boat models.
  • Support, facilitate propulsion system installation training of OEM installation technicians.
  • Support dealer meetings and customer events as required.
