About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire produce department to ensure the highest quality and freshness of fruits and vegetables offered to customers. This role involves managing inventory, coordinating with suppliers, and maintaining optimal stock levels to meet customer demand while minimizing waste. The Produce Manager will lead and train a team to provide excellent customer service and maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing produce section. They will also implement safety and sanitation standards in compliance with health regulations. Ultimately, the Produce Manager plays a critical role in driving sales growth and enhancing the overall shopping experience through effective produce management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in produce management or a related retail supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of fresh produce varieties, handling, and storage requirements.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and ordering systems.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in business, agriculture, or related field.
  • Experience with produce merchandising and marketing strategies.
  • Certification in food safety or produce handling (e.g., ServSafe).
  • Proficiency with retail point-of-sale and inventory software.
  • Experience working in a high-volume retail or grocery environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the produce department including receiving, stocking, and merchandising fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule produce department staff to ensure efficient workflow and excellent customer service.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with suppliers to order fresh produce, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations within the produce area.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce waste and improve product turnover while maximizing profitability.
  • Create attractive displays and signage to enhance product visibility and appeal to customers.
  • Analyze sales data and customer feedback to adjust product offerings and improve department performance.
