About The Position

The Produce Manager is responsible for achieving desired gross profit and productivity levels within the produce department. This role involves forecasting sales, managing product movement, and determining labor needs. Key duties include ordering, receiving, and unloading produce deliveries, as well as establishing daily work assignments and priorities for department personnel. The manager handles all personnel issues, including interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and discharge, while adhering to established guidelines. Administrative tasks include completing required forms, records, and reports, verifying receipts, and preparing weekly work schedules. The position also involves stocking, straightening, and pricing merchandise using a pricing/label gun, rotating products based on shelf life, and performing basic housekeeping duties using various equipment. The Produce Manager must operate all tools and equipment safely, ensure coolers and cases maintain appropriate temperatures, and maintain a neat and clean work area, performing all functions with acceptable speed and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, (produce cooler maximum low temperature, 32 degrees).
  • Standing and/or walking at a rapid pace for extended periods of time to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves desired gross profit.
  • Achieves desired level of productivity.
  • Projects sales, product movement, labor needs.
  • Orders product according to established guidelines.
  • Receives and unloads truck deliveries using available equipment and according to established guidelines.
  • Establishes daily work assignments and priorities for produce department personnel.
  • Follows established guidelines in all personnel issues, interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, discharge, etc.
  • Follows established guidelines for completion of all required forms, records, reports and verify receipts.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules according to established guidelines.
  • Stocks and straightens merchandise and supplies.
  • Using pricing/label gun, marks each item with the correct selling price.
  • Rotates merchandise according to anticipated shelf life/product expiration dates.
  • Performs basic housekeeping duties using available equipment, (mops, brooms, floor scrubbing and buffing machines, etc.).
  • Operates all required tools and equipment in a safe manner except when restricted due to age.
  • Ensure coolers and cases maintain appropriate temperatures.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area.
  • Performs all essential job functions at an acceptable level of speed and accuracy.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
