About The Position

The Produce Manager at Huntingburg IGA is responsible for the overall operation and profitability of the produce department. This includes achieving gross profit and productivity targets, forecasting sales and labor needs, and managing product ordering, receiving, and inventory rotation. The role involves setting daily work assignments for produce personnel, handling all aspects of personnel management from hiring and training to performance evaluation and discipline, and preparing weekly work schedules. Additionally, the manager is tasked with stocking, straightening, and pricing merchandise, ensuring proper product rotation, and maintaining cleanliness within the department using various cleaning equipment. The position requires operating tools and equipment safely, performing physical tasks such as lifting heavy items, and working in environments with temperature extremes, including a produce cooler.

Responsibilities

  • Achieves desired gross profit.
  • Achieves desired level of productivity.
  • Projects sales, product movement, labor needs.
  • Orders product according to established guidelines.
  • Receives and unloads truck deliveries using available equipment and according to established guidelines.
  • Establishes daily work assignments and priorities for produce department personnel.
  • Follows established guidelines in all personnel issues, interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, discharge, etc.
  • Follows established guidelines for completion of all required forms, records, reports and verify receipts.
  • Prepares weekly work schedules according to established guidelines.
  • Stocks and straightens merchandise and supplies.
  • Using pricing/label gun, marks each item with the correct selling price.
  • Rotates merchandise according to anticipated shelf life/product expiration dates.
  • Performs basic housekeeping duties using available equipment, (mops, brooms, floor scrubbing and buffing machines, etc.).
  • Operates all required tools and equipment in a safe manner except when restricted due to age.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ensure coolers and cases maintain appropriate temperatures.
  • Ability to work in temperature extremes, (produce cooler maximum low temperature, 32 degrees).
  • Standing and/or walking at a rapid pace for extended periods of time to perform essential job functions.
  • Maintains a neat and clean work area.
  • Performs all essential job functions at an acceptable level of speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
