Position Overview The Procurement Specialist (Buyer) supports utility and infrastructure construction projects by executing day-to-day purchasing activities for materials, equipment, and services. This role plays a critical part in ensuring crews have the materials they need — when they need them — to safely and efficiently build critical power delivery and infrastructure systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated procurement professional with 2–4 years of experience who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain
  • Understanding of construction material procurement processes
  • Ability to manage multiple purchase requests in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills across field and corporate teams
  • Ability to work independently while supporting collaborative project teams

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience supporting construction, utility, infrastructure, or industrial projects strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Source and procure materials for utility construction projects including poles, wire, transformers, conduit, hardware, PPE, and related infrastructure materials
  • Create and manage purchase orders in accordance with project budgets and schedules
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor quotes to ensure competitive pricing and timely delivery
  • Negotiate pricing, freight terms, and delivery schedules within established authority
  • Track and expedite orders to support active field operations
  • Partner with Project Managers, Field Supervision, and Warehouse teams to align purchasing with project needs
  • Monitor material availability and mitigate supply chain risks
  • Resolve vendor discrepancies related to pricing, invoices, and shipments
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation within ERP systems
  • Support vendor onboarding and compliance requirements
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
