Process Safety Engineer

About The Position

This position serves as the company’s subject matter expert (SME) for applicability of, interpretation of, and best practice guidance for OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM), CCPS Risk Based 20 PSM Elements and EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations. They support assigned sites (3-4 plants in the Gulf, West Coast Regions, or a mixture between both).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in an industrial setting - prefer chemical plant / refinery, or Oil/Gas/Petrochemical experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in Process Safety Management preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience delivering PSM Design Hazard Management (DHM) in a project setting.
  • Direct operations, engineering, projects (Design/Execution), turnarounds, and/or maintenance experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, RBPS CCPS 20 elements and RAGAGEP
  • Ability to speak in front of a group and demonstrated ability to be effective trainer
  • Works well under pressure – ability to meet tight deadlines with quality results
  • Strong communication/inter-personal skills – able to inspire and encourage the use of best practices at plant sites. Able to communicate with plant staff, management, and regulatory agencies
  • Ability to organize tasks and consistently produce results with minimal supervision
  • Must well versed in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, & Outlook. SAP experience a plus. Must be well versed in PHA Pro, or equivalent software
  • Must be able to attain a Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate, conduct, & document PHAs (typically HAZOP, HAZID, Risk Assessments, What-If…) at plant sites.
  • Enter PHA recommendations into Action Tracking.
  • Prepare PHA key learnings message for each applicable department
  • Drive 5-year PHA revalidation schedule and track milestones.
  • Back up liaison for PSM/RMP regulatory visits/inspections, should local site be unable to take point.
  • Formulate short term and long-term strategies to improve safe operations
  • Assist in developing new and maintaining network and/or local PSM Procedures.
  • Seek opportunities to standardize and customize the PSM program to improve compliance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support RC14001® review and audit program
  • Lead/Facilitate 20 RBPS element implementation and their audits.
  • Keep new-hire PSM/RMP orientation training material current
  • Lead new hire and/or refresher PSM-program training as needed.
  • Conduct periodic field audits and observations throughout the year.
