This is an employee-oriented and safety conscious facility where respect, responsibility and recognition are a part of everyone’s responsibilities. If you are a dependable, motivated individual and meet the requirements below, you may qualify.   The successful candidates should be able to promote a safe environment through our Tenets of Operation, ensuring environmental compliance, operating reliably, and producing the highest quality product. Process Operators work with maintenance and all other departments to ensure safety, environmental, production and cost goals are met. Employees in this position receive work direction from the Shift Supervisor and work with other Operators to perform routine plant operating duties, including, but not limited to the following tasks:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of experience OR an Associate degree in Process Technology OR equivalent Military service with 5 years of applicable experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to read and communicate verbally, written, and electronically in English
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Experienced in troubleshooting process and mechanical issues
  • Position requires ability to climb, bend, lift, and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at heights; entry into confined spaces; work in adverse weather conditions; ability to listen and follow instructions.
  • Requires working 12-hour rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends, and overtime.
  • Operating needs of the unit will dictate work schedule.
  • Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal Cedar Bayou Operator's training program and pass required testing.
  • Must follow all plant safety guidelines and policies, which includes the wearing of fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Standby coverage will be assigned during off days; must be able to report to work in response to call-out within 90 minutes of receiving the request.
  • Additional requirements include passing electronic pre-employment tests prior to being considered for the position. Successful candidates will be required to complete a physical examination, which includes a drug and alcohol screen, fitness for duty exam, and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate pumps, compressors, fired heaters, reactors, extruders, distillation columns, and other plant equipment within safe operating ranges
  • Make changes to the operating process necessary to maintain product quality
  • Monitor the performance of plant equipment and process conditions, read flow meters and temperature and pressure gauges, and take routine readings on process variables
  • Operate control room instrumentation systems
  • Inside DCS board operations is expected if assigned to a process unit
  • Draw samples of products from the process for laboratory testing
  • Perform lab testing on some of the process streams
  • Promptly respond to process alarms / constraints
  • Start-up/shut-down process equipment
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance
  • Support other operational activities associated with site turnarounds and projects
  • Loads and unloads chemical shipments/products from trucks or railcars
  • Trains and shares knowledge with other operators
