A Day in the Life: The Process Operator plays a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the canola processing facility. This role oversees production systems, performs quality testing, conducts plant housekeeping, and supports equipment maintenance to optimize product quality and production efficiency. By maintaining strict safety and food safety standards, monitoring process performance, and responding to operational needs, the Process Operator directly contributes to reliable production and a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in a grain processing facility or manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Physical capability to perform required duties, including long shifts and hands‑on operational tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate canola crushing and/or refining systems, following good manufacturing practices to support safe and efficient production.
  • Conduct quality tests on raw ingredients, meal, and oil at all processing stages—crude, refined, bleached, and deodorized—using lab equipment.
  • Make process adjustments using the PLC system to ensure production and quality specifications are consistently met.
  • Monitor equipment condition, identify signs of wear or damage, perform minor repairs, and assist maintenance staff as needed.
  • Complete in-depth cleaning of plant systems, equipment, pipes, and tanks according to cleaning schedules, ensuring documentation is kept up to date.
  • Receive and offload process chemicals in accordance with strict safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, documenting operational performance and notable events.
  • Support plant housekeeping to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
