This job can be described as: At Chesterton, we have a laser focus on our customers. The Process Operator I is a frontline manufacturing position responsible for various support functions within the Mechanical Seals department. A person in this role must have the ability to run various types of equipment, utilize a variety of hand and power tools, use sound judgment in making decisions, and be capable of monitoring critical operations. Responsible for recognizing, correcting when possible, and reporting all operational variations. May assist in moving material throughout the facility and/or cell as required. Performs direct labor/value added tasks within the area as required. Must be able to perform transitions in the Business Software System that includes, but is not limited to, material issues, scrap, closing Manufacturing Orders, reporting labor and material transfers. Job Model: On-Site All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense. Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager. On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Works under general direction from supervisor.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work according to written/verbal instructions and procedures which will ensure safety on the job and efficient, effective assembly process.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow written, verbal instructions and sequence of events.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints.
  • Basic level of job knowledge required to perform routine assembly and sub-assembly operations.
  • Ability to handle and operate handheld power tools and operate various machinery when required.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to use a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with manager to retrieve work assignments for the day.
  • Uses work instructions and help from co-workers to carry out the manufacturing process.
  • Performs sub-assembly tasks such as face insertion, pin/lug insertion, pressing of components and other miscellaneous sub-assembly functions.
  • Sets up and operates the Lapping machines to lap, polish and/or rework various faces while adhering to manufacturing work instructions.
  • Utilizing “Loctite” materials performs the final sealing operation on faces and holders to ensure that there is no leakage between the face and holder. Pressure testing is required to validate the parts.
  • Performs de-burring operations, utilizing drill presses, polishers, and other handheld power tools. Removes burrs and sharp edges from machined parts. Care must be exercised as a part can be ruined by over de-burring.
  • May assist with material handling activities and the movement of hazardous waste and raw material (bar & tube stock).
  • Stamp and identify parts utilizing appropriate machinery following Engineering standards and specifications.
  • Performs transactions in the Business Management System (D365)
  • Responsible for closing manufacturing orders, material issues and scrap, and material movement between work areas through the Business Management System (BMS). Using the BMS, must maintain accurate inventory levels, accounting for raw material usage and accounting for labor hours spent.
  • Consults work orders to determine specific customer requirements.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area in accordance to 5S policies and procedures.
  • This specific role/function is subject to our On-Call Policy and may be required to remain available during off- schedule hours to support the business needs.
