About The Position

The Process Operator Intern, Billings Refinery applies subject matter knowledge learned in a process plant technology program to the workplace and develops technical and interpersonal skills in the workplace. It is important for student interns to participate as contributing and active members of their operations team. Interns are expected to effectively communicate with all levels of the team and to ask questions that facilitate learning while respecting the professional demands and experience of their co-workers. This position requires the successful completion of an online assessment. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in a Process Plant Technology Associate's Degree program
  • Currently hold and able to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher
  • Willing and able to perform/comply with the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • To work a rotating shift schedule, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • To work overtime
  • To read technical procedures and materials in English
  • To learn computer software associated with process operations
  • To work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
  • To work near large, hot, high speed machines
  • To work around chemicals, including acids and bases
  • To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment including but not limited to items such as protective toe footwear, ear and eye protection, fall protection, hhead protection, and hand protection
  • To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat
  • To climb up to 250 feet in height
  • To lift up to 50 pounds
  • To perform firefighting duties
  • To work outside in harsh weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Shadow and support experienced employees while effectively following all safety, health, environmental, maintenance, and operation practices and procedures
  • Learn about health, safety and environmental hazards
  • Witness the work authorization permit system
  • Witness energy isolation (e.g. Lock, Tag & Try)
  • Learn how to recognize and report incidents and near-misses
  • Learn about the overall process unit they are assigned
  • Make rounds along with a qualified Operator
  • Monitor normal operational conditions
  • Communicate well with all organizational levels and present information / ideas in an articulate and organized way
  • Expected to work effectively in a team environment
