About The Position

Process Maintenance Apprentice Position Summary Work Schedule: 1st shift, Monday to Friday 100% based on-site in Manassas, VA Our Manassas, Virginia site is a part of the Consumer Health division and provides expanded capabilities in soft chews and lozenges. With extensive development and manufacturing expertise and a wide range of flavors, ingredients, and colors available, we can work with complex formulations to help create engaging new products consumers will love. The Process Maintenance Apprentice is an entry-level training position integrating a combination of on-the-job training and formalized written coursework . The position is designed to develop hands-on skills in maintaining and repairing manufacturing equipment. Under the guidance of experienced maintenance technicians and management , the apprentice assists with both emergency and routine maintenance tasks, including equipment changeovers, to help minimize production downtime.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest in the skilled trades, supported by prior coursework, technical training, or hands-on experience (such as automotive work, equipment repair, HVAC, fabrication, or similar mechanical hobbies).
  • Willingness and ability to learn the safe use of a wide variety of tools, equipment, and industrial machinery under the guidance of experienced technicians.
  • Strong commitment to developing technical competencies throughout the apprenticeship, including reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and vendor documentation; gaining foundational skills in pipefitting, plumbing, welding, and fabrication; learning to program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs; running conduit and wiring electrical control panels in accordance with NEC guidelines; and diagnosing issues across various tools and equipment.
  • Commitment to successfully complete the apprenticeship program and remain employed with Catalent for a minimum of one year following program completion.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 1000 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand; frequently talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit, taste or smell.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced maintenance technicians with basic preventive and mechanical maintenance tasks, equipment repairs, and small-scale process improvement projects to develop foundational skills.
  • Support the preparation of machine foundations and learn to grind, file, and fit machinery parts under supervision.
  • Assist with the construction and installation of equipment such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails while gaining hands-on installation experience.
  • Help safely transfer equipment to designated maintenance areas to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in mechanical and facility areas to promote a safe and organized work environment.
  • Support the cleanliness and organization of the repair shop, maintenance office, storage areas, and all related tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Learn and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Food Safety Plans (HACCP), and Food Quality Plans (FQP) as part of technical development.
  • Actively participate in scheduled training modules and classroom instruction to build technical knowledge and meet apprenticeship milestones as established by management .
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support learning objectives and overall maintenance operations.
