Scope: Wave Life Sciences is seeking a highly motivated engineering student to join the Process Engineering group, which supports Oligonucleotide manufacturing and various capital projects for the Lexington site. The Co-op Program is a 6-month, full-time experience within the Process Engineering group at Wave Life Sciences where you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge beyond the classroom.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience solving complex problems in which an analysis of situations or data required an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects / tasks at once, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in tight spaces with equipment (bending, squatting, twisting).
  • Ability to lift objects of 25-50 pounds, push / pull objects, apply firm grasp and / or reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to gown in / out of cleanrooms.
  • This co-op opportunity is open to undergraduate students enrolled in a chemical/bioprocess engineering or related program at an accredited university.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program, returning to the academic program following Wave Life Sciences Co-op assignment
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a Bachelor-level degree in a technical discipline(s) such as chemical engineering, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, data science / statistics, etc.
  • Experience / interest in working on GMP process equipment and / or in GMP manufacturing environments a plus.
  • Experience / interest in oligonucleotide manufacturing processes, unit operations, and facilities a plus.
  • Experience with performing data analysis with statistical software and / or programming languages such as MS Excel, JMP, SQL, R, Python, etc. a plus.
  • Experience / interest in CAD and drafting P&IDs a plus.
  • Experience using / applying AI tools and applications to boost productivity and / or perform data analysis a plus.
  • Grade point average of 3.3 or higher preferred

Responsibilities

  • This co-op role will be primarily responsible for assisting the Process Engineering team with executing engineering project deliverables, drafting technical and quality documents, troubleshooting and maintaining GMP process equipment, supporting manufacturing investigations and other related activities.
  • This assignment will offer the opportunity for involvement in a range of Engineering and Facilities activities, the opportunity to learn about oligonucleotide process unit operations and equipment, and hands-on experience supporting manufacturing process systems in a GMP environment.
  • The co-op will be assigned to various engineering projects and tasks.
  • The ability to successfully execute projects will require a willingness to learn good manufacturing practices (GMP), excellent communication skills, and an ability to work well in a team environment.
  • This individual will be expected to learn how to interpret engineering documents (for example process and instrumentation diagrams and equipment specifications), and support and document engineering activities (maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment studies, etc.).
