This role will provide support and technical leadership on projects, capital, and operational/technical issues resolution and quality/cost improvement to the Duluth Mill. This role pays an annual salary of $85,000 - $90,000 depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pulp and paper science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • At least two years of process engineering experience in an industrial setting preferred but not required. Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Analyze data, organize it so others find it useful, and make decisions based on data.
  • Ability to read P&IDs and mechanical drawings.
  • Possess effective problem solving and project planning skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in statistical analysis and statistical process control.
  • Demonstrate a dedicated commitment to safety.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to resolve production and maintenance issues.
  • Assist in setting priorities for technical projects; provide leadership and technical resources for installation, start-up, and training for new projects.
  • Make inspections of operations, checking progress of projects, quality and process troubleshooting, reviewing operations data, conferring with operations personnel on problems, etc.
  • Assist in resolving daily quality and operating problems and improving operations.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly chemical inventories, ordering the necessary chemical products to ensure continuous mill operations.
  • Be the primary contact for all chemical related vendors.
  • Track chemical costs
  • Conduct routine meetings with vendors to ensure they are operating safely and are engaged in our processes.
  • Maintain the SDS system.
  • Perform research, conduct trials, and recommend changes to improve the operation.
  • Analyze mill processes and procedures, monitor industry technological developments, and recommend projects as appropriate.
  • Lead efforts toward improving quality and runnability.
  • Lead efforts toward improving costs.
  • Provide problem solving and analytical skills and leadership.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with maintenance, leadership, and technicians; as well as personnel in other Sofidel mills.
  • Provide assistance to environmental lead with site sample collection and various monitoring activities.
  • Be a part of the “on-call” rotation.
