Strong desire to work safely and help others also work safely. Take primary responsibility for their own safety. Follows all policies and procedures. Understands safety is a condition of employment. Monitors and maintains proper batch storage, delivery, weighing, and mixing. Works with QC and raw material carriers to approve unloading of raw materials into silos. Evaluates batch plant control systems data and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure process operates efficiently and remains in control. Monitors and controls glass formation in furnace and forehearth to ensure optimum mixing, melting, and furnace throughput. Monitors and adjusts critical process variables, including but not limited to, natural gas firing, electric boost power, pressure, temperature, flow rates, oxygen, bubblers, glass level, batch line, etc. Inspects furnace and forehearths per required frequency and takes appropriate action when issues are found. Assists in furnace changes, upsets, start-ups, shutdowns, repairs, and rebuilds. Guides and assists maintenance personnel in batch and furnace repairs. Performs minor repairs and process adjustments, as necessary. Maintains exceptional housekeeping and organization in all areas of responsibility including but not limited to batch house, furnace level, furnace sump level, forehearth level, and control room. Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Prior furnace operations experience.
  • Three or more years of manufacturing experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to provide simple and accurate instructions.
  • Ability to work at times in a high temperature environment.
  • Frequent lifting or moving materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Required to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule including working days and nights and rotating frequently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, and grasp.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work from heights.
