The Process Engineer III plays a key role in leading the design for a defined scope of work—such as an area, a series of unit operations, or systems—within a project. This position is responsible for managing scope, budget, and schedule for assigned work, which typically involves small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity. The Process Engineer III works closely with clients to understand design requirements, translate them into actionable scope, and document open issues, decisions, and next steps to keep the design moving forward. This role also requires identifying deviations from contracted scope or changes in design direction and escalating them to the Discipline Lead or Project Manager as needed.

  • Serve as a primary point of coordination, frequently communicating with internal and external architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, trade partners, and vendors.
  • Manage multiple complex tasks, set priorities, and direct the work of others—working independently or under the guidance of a Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Build and maintain strong technical networks internally and externally.
  • Establish trusted relationships with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Support broader organizational initiatives such as Technical Advancement, Vertical Markets, and leadership opportunities.
  • Contribute to advanced deliverables and activities requiring deeper expertise, including: Technical bid tabulations Vendor package management Factory acceptance testing Risk assessments HAZOP/HCCP and similar reviews 3D model review and coordination Preparing sequences of operations and reviewing functional specifications
  • Participate in cross-discipline and discipline-specific checks for small projects of intermediate complexity, ensuring overall project quality.
  • Mentor junior engineers and design staff.
  • Lead system design programming and planning with support from senior team members.
  • ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in a discipline-specific field
  • At least 5 years of experience in an operating company or design firm within a related industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of industry standards, regulatory guidance, and building codes
  • EIT or PE certification
  • Proven ability to perform complex engineering tasks with minimal supervision
  • Experience coordinating and managing design efforts within project teams and with construction partners and vendors
  • Familiarity with construction support activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reporting
  • Basic experience with commissioning, startup, qualification, and troubleshooting of process systems
