Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and driven Process Engineer to join our team. As a Process Engineer, you will utilize your knowledge of engineering principles to execute technical assignments and projects, solve manufacturing challenges, and contribute to process and product improvements. You will play a critical role in enhancing manufacturing capabilities by implementing innovative ideas and methods, supporting production operations, and driving continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in process engineering and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to mentor and develop talent, fostering team success and individual growth.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mechanical design (components, tooling, guarding, etc.).
  • Project management expertise, including cost estimation, planning, and execution.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools such as Minitab.
  • Proficiency in structured problem-solving methodologies like DMAIC or PDCA.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of plastic extrusion technologies, cabling processes, and UV curable technologies is a plus.
  • Strong networking abilities across engineering and technology teams.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Organizational and planning skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Open and engaging interpersonal approach, with the ability to give and receive coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day problem-solving support to production operations, ensuring smooth manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in the transfer of new cabling technologies, materials, or processes from development to production, ensuring repeatability and reliability in a production environment.
  • Analyze process data to understand capability, monitor trends, and drive manufacturing excellence.
  • Collaborate with operators, team leaders, and peers to implement process, equipment, or safety improvements.
  • Identify process improvement and cost reduction opportunities using scientific methods to test and validate hypotheses.
  • Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for equipment purchases to achieve project goals.
