Applied Materials’ Research and Development department (Varian R&D) and Advanced Project Development Department team are searching for co-op/interns to join our team starting in 2025! Our work involves developing and optimizing process for the next-generation of semiconductor product that is in use by leading companies across the world. Our R&D department is working on state-of-the-art tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel engineering we are advancing processes such as deposition, etch, pattern shaping, and material modification. Start date: Dec 2025/Jan 2026 for 6-9 months, on-site at our Gloucester, MA location The position will entail the following: Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations, to include: tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, documentation. Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions

Requirements

  • Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Available to work for 6 - 9 months

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus
  • Quick learner.
  • Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Well organized with attention to details.
