About The Position

The Global Information Systems Group is dedicated to the success of Lam through providing best-in-class and innovative information system solutions and services. Together, we support users globally with data, information, and systems to achieve their business objectives. The Digital Transformation – Process Delivery & Automation Intern will support enterprise modernization by analyzing workflows, identifying improvement opportunities, designing automation solutions, and assisting in process re‑engineering initiatives. This role combines business process thinking with hands‑on engineering, giving the intern exposure to real transformation work, systems optimization, and cross‑functional delivery. This internship is ideal for a student interested in automation, process improvement, digital systems, AI/ML tooling, and enterprise workflow optimization. By the end of the internship, the intern should achieve: 1–3 delivered process maps with identified improvement areas. At least one deployed automation or prototype script/tool. A measurable improvement (cycle time, error reduction, or efficiency uplift) in at least one workflow. Updated documentation for improved processes and systems. A final presentation summarizing automation opportunities, delivered projects, and realized/expected value.

  • Ability to document processes clearly and communicate with technical and non‑technical teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in process mapping (e.g., Lucidchart, Visio, Miro).
  • Knowledge of APIs, workflow engines, or automation tools (APScheduler, Flask, Zapier, Power Automate, etc.).
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts or projects.
  • Prior internship/research experience in automation, systems engineering, or data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Document existing business processes using flowcharts, system maps, and workflow diagrams.
  • Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and manual pain points across IS and business functions.
  • Conduct shadowing, interviews, and data reviews to understand current-state operations.
  • Evaluate processes for RPA, scripting, AI, or integration-based automation potential.
  • Prioritize opportunities using impact vs. effort frameworks.
  • Prepare business cases and value assessments for automation proposals.
  • Support redesign of workflows to reduce cycle time and improve consistency.
  • Partner with stakeholders to pilot improved processes and gather feedback.
  • Track improvements with measurable KPIs and update documentation accordingly.
  • Build small automation scripts or tools using Python, APIs, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Create prototypes for AI-enabled process steps (e.g., document classification, summarization, routing).
  • Assist in testing, validating, and deploying automation artifacts into production workflows.
  • Assist with rollout of new digital platforms and features.
  • Participate in system integration activities using APIs or connectors.
