About The Position

Working to build a safer community is the mission of the Anoka County Community Corrections department. The department has an immediate opening for Probation Officer Assistant who is responsible for various tasks, such as completing bail evaluations, conducting criminal record checks, and preparing Pre-Sentence Investigation reports for the court. Anoka County’s Human Services division is committed to working with people to improve lives through collaboration across its five departments: Community Corrections, Community Social Services & Behavioral Health, Economic Assistance, and the Job Training Center. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of February 2nd, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related field.
  • One or more years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience in a Correctional setting.
  • Experience with reviewing and documenting criminal history.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document criminal record checks.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to engage defendants and obtain relevant information.
  • Gather pertinent information from collateral contacts, such as, community agencies, probation agencies, family members, and victims.
  • Review case history, police reports, and information provided by defendant.
  • Complete Bail Evaluations.
  • Prepare Pre-Sentence Investigation reports and make specific sentencing recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of case activity utilizing department and offender data systems and computer hardware.
