About The Position

The PRN Pharmacy Technician at Miramont Behavioral Health in Middleton, Wisconsin, provides support in carrying out pharmaceutical care. This includes managing medication orders, billing, stock replacement, and preparing controlled drugs for pharmacist checking. The role also involves filling patient medication bags or carts, delivering medication to units, purchasing, prepackaging medications, and controlling inventory for all drug classes. Additionally, the technician is responsible for automated dispensing cabinets equipment and inventory maintenance, and discarding patient's own medications. The schedule is M-F only, with no weekends or holidays, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The PRN schedule requires 4 shifts per month, with full-time hours available through June.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Active and in good-standing Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by State.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification may be required based on state requirements or facility policy.
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

  • Pyxis Experience Preferred
  • One or more years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician, in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fills Physician medication orders under the direction of the Pharmacist.
  • Picks up medications orders and delivers medications to units as required.
  • Orders and receives medications from vendors; places ID stickers on medications and puts medications on shelves.
  • Interprets medication labels to prepare and maintains records of transactions.
  • Prepares unit dose tablets, capsules, and liquids, and other specialty drug trays.
  • Assists the pharmacist with the dispensing of controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records.
  • Maintains formulary and cost savings by minimizing non-formulary procurements and utilizing courier services unless indicated for immediate patient care.
  • Assists with report generation and information retrieval.
  • Maintains stock in automated dispensing units at adequate levels and performs inventory and ordering functions.
  • Reports suspected adverse drug reactions and medication occurrences.
  • Performs inspections of nursing unit floor stock and pharmacy stock to ensure security, potency of medications and removes expired and/or improperly labeled medications from stock.
  • Recommends improvement in pharmacy or facility processes that will decrease the potential for adverse outcomes.
  • Performs daily billing and charge functions as required, recognizing errors when they arise.
  • Discards patients own medications as needed.
