Overview The Rotating Pharmacist is responsible for providing quality pharmaceutical care/services to patients and health care professionals at any ARH or affiliated unit as assigned. Responsibilities Supervises and performs the functions involved in the inpatient drug distribution program. Supervises and performs the functions involved in the accurate and efficient dispensing of outpatient prescriptions. Supervises and performs the functions involved in the I.V. Admixture Program to include the accurate and efficient preparation and delivery of total parenteral nutrition solutions, chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other medications for intravenous/irrigation therapy. Reviews and verifies medication orders for accuracy and completeness. Monitors patient's drug therapy to detect/prevent drug interactions, contraindications, and other adverse reactions. Makes appropriate interventions to improve patient care. Uses and is proficient in the operation of the pharmacy computer system. Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical agents/products. Obtains pertinent patient medication/medical information. Provides current and accurate drug information to patients and health care professionals. Maintains appropriate records and inventory on all drugs/pharmaceutical agents. Monitors the proper storage and distribution of patient floor stock, controlled drugs, and emergency medications. Communicates effectively with patients and health care professionals. Trains and supervises pharmacy supportive personnel as assigned. Serves on hospital committees as assigned. Assumes the duties of the Director of Pharmacy when assigned. Provides pharmaceutical care in assigned locations as directed by Central Pharmaceutical Services. Performs other related duties as assigned.
