About The Position

Charleston GI, established in 1989, is the first and largest gastroenterology practice in the Lowcountry, operating a physicians' practice and three nationally certified and state licensed endoscopy centers. The team comprises ten Board Certified Gastroenterologists with over 100 years of combined experience, prioritizing patient health, service, and satisfaction. The Registered Nurse on the Endoscopy Unit provides nursing care to patients based on individual needs, physician's orders, recognized nursing practice, and established policies and procedures. This includes pre-procedure and post-procedure care for patients undergoing endoscopic and InterStim procedures, as well as initiating and assisting with emergency measures. The Registered Nurse may also supervise other licensed and unlicensed personnel under the direction of the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or Charge Nurse. The center is an outpatient facility for diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopy procedures, serving a patient population from adolescent through geriatric, with over 90% of patients aged 30 or older. Medical care is managed by physicians credentialed by the Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • At least one year clinical experience in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of the professional nursing theory and practice, to give and evaluate patient care
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
  • Demonstrates initiative, insight and judgment in making decisions
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions
  • Skill in complete and thorough documentation
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public
  • Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Graduation from an accredited school or college of nursing
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Carolina or current licensure as a Registered Nurse in another Compact state
  • Current BLS certification

  • Clinical experience in Endoscopy, ER, OR, or ICU
  • Knowledge of endoscopy equipment and procedures
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients on the Endoscopy Unit in terms of individual needs, according to physician's orders and in conformity with recognized nursing practice and established policies and procedures
  • Provides pre-procedure and post-procedure care of patients scheduled for endoscopic and InterStim procedures
  • Initiates and assists with emergency measures as needed
  • May supervise other licensed and unlicensed personnel as instructed by the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or Charge Nurse
